Artificial Intelligence

 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the use of computer systems to process information and make decisions, usually in the context of uncertainty.

AI is particularly useful when a large number of decisions need to be taken in a consistent way after considering a lot of data

​

We plan to develop two AI systems for the Haem-Match project:

Blood Matcher

​

• Blood Matcher will select units from NHSBT stock for the transfusion of a specific patient, taking into account current blood stocks, predictions of future blood stocks and predicted future demand for blood of various types.

​

• Sanquin, the blood service for the Netherlands, have developed a prototype for this this technology. We will be collaborating with them, to develop this technology for use within the NHS.

Blood Stocker

​

• Blood Stocker will automate donor invitations according to blood type, to ensure that blood stocks meet the needs of patients requiring transfusion.
  
  We have been successful in acquiring funding for this part of the project
